Tools Required

Prior to performing this procedure, you will need to have the following tools:
11/32” Ratchet Socket or Nut Driver
3/8” Ratchet Socket or Nut Driver
Wire Cutter
Phillips Screwdriver #2
 

Completion Time

We estimate that it will take 15 minutes to perform this procedure. Keep all hardware organized as you work.

WARNING: Power down the Auto Sentry.

Parts Included

(1) ground wire (or card reader assembly with ground wire attached)
(1) lock washer
(1) flat washer
(1) 11/32” nut
 

Ground Wire, 11/32” nut, flat washer, and lock washer

Remove Card Reader

1. Turn off the Auto Sentry operating system by double-clicking on the Shutdown icon on the display.
2. Wait until the display goes to a white screen, then shut down the main power switch inside the Auto Sentry.
3. Turn off the breakers in the Auto Sentry.
4. Shut off the electricity to the Auto Sentry at the ICS power distribution box.
5. Open the back doors of the Auto Sentry.
6. Use an 11/32” socket to remove the (3) nuts on the card reader security bracket, if one is installed. 
   
   
    
7. Cut the wire tie holding the cables to the steel card reader bracket.
8. Remove (4) 3/8” nuts holding the black card reader mounting bezel to the inside of the Auto Sentry.
   
   
   
   NOTE: DO NOT remove the screws holding the steel card reader bracket to the mounting bezel.
9. Disconnect the power cable from the card reader.
10. Remove the card reader from the Auto Sentry flex.

Install the Card Reader

1. If you have received a new card reader with the ground wire already attached.
2. If you did not receive a new card reader, lay the card reader down on its left side. Find the small ground screw in the middle of the circuit board, and remove it. 
3. With the ground screw that was removed in Step #12, connect the small lug at one end of the new ground wire with the ground screw to the card reader. 
   Tighten the screw just enough so it doesn’t move.
   
   
    
4. Install the card reader with the (4) 3/8” nuts that were removed in step #8. 
   • If the card reader is the replacement for the chip and pin card reader in the Auto Sentry Flex, attach the card reader where the pin pad was and locate the ground screw under the upper right nut on the plate where the old card reader was located. 
   • If the card reader is a replacement in an eXP, the ground wire is located under the nut above the upper right corner of the printer door lock plate. 
5. Firmly tighten the ground wire to the ground screw on the wall of the Auto Sentry in the following order:
   • Lock washer on the ground screw
   • Larger lug from the ground wire on the ground screw
   • Flat washer on the ground screw
   • Attach the included 11/32” nut
     
     
      
6. Attach the card reader power cable.
7. Attach the cables to the steel mounting bracket with a wire tie to keep them neat and tight. 
8. Install the card reader security bracket, if removed in step #6. 

Powering Up the Auto Sentry flex

1. Turn on the electricity to the Auto Sentry Flex by turning on the Auto Sentry breaker inside the ICS power distribution box.
2. Turn the breakers on inside the Auto Sentry flex by pressing the blue buttons on the breakers until they click in.
3. Inside the Auto Sentry flex, turn on the power switch to boot the system.
