Replace the Downward Facing Barcode Scanner with a Front Facing Barcode Scanner

you work.

WARNING: Please have a certified electrician check voltages on the power supply before
installing new components. The voltage should be 24 volts.

Instructions to Power Down the Auto Sentry flex

WARNING: Failure to turn off the Auto Sentry increases the risk of serious bodily injury or death;
and also, may cause the credit card reader to go into a tamper state and if that happens, the credit card reader will have to be replaced.

1. On the site server desktop, click on the VNC icon for the Auto Sentry flex.
2. On the menu bar, click the Windows Flag icon.
3. Click the Shutdown button.
4. Wait until the Auto Sentry flex display goes to a white screen.
5. With the hex key, open the rear doors of the Auto Sentry flex.
6. Turn off the power switch inside the Auto Sentry head.
7. Turn off both breakers inside the Auto Sentry head by pressing the blue buttons on the breakers until they click out. 
8. Turn off the breaker inside the Auto Sentry base by pressing the blue button on the breaker until it clicks out.
9. Shut off the electricity to the Auto Sentry by turning off the Auto Sentry breaker inside the ICS® power distribution box.
   
   
    

Instructions to remove the Front Facing Barcode Scanner

1. Detach the plastic face cover of the Auto Sentry by removing the (7) 3/8” nuts inside the Auto Sentry, and then set the front plastic cover aside. 
   
   
    
2. Remove the old scanner housing, wedge, scanner, and cable. There are (4) screws for the housing, (2) screws for the wedge, and (2) screws for the scanner. Disconnect the cable to the scanner, and remove all scanner parts from the Auto Sentry. This cable will not be used in the Auto Sentry, therefore, disconnect the other end from the motherboard: locate the USB cable marked “JADAK” near the motherboard and unplug it.
   
   
    
3. Remove the bill acceptor. 
4. Remove the coin acceptor and coin return cup.
5. Remove the contactless reader.
6. Remove the graphics decal from the front face of the Auto Sentry.  Start at one of the corners for the decal and peel it away with your fingers.
7. Attach the scanner faceplate template provided where the old barcode reader was.  Insert the (2) screws where marked and loosely secure from inside the enclosure with the nuts provided.  
8. Level the template by measuring from the top of the Auto Sentry enclosure to the (2) top corners of the template.  Tighten the screws. 
   
   
    
9. Cover the components inside the enclosure with a towel or rag to protect them from the metal shavings cut off by the drill bit or have someone hold a vacuum cleaner hose inside the enclosure while drilling. 
10. With a marker mark the (3) holes that need to be drilled.  The template may remain in place as a guide for drilling the holes. Use a 11/64” drill bit and drill the (3) holes. 
11. Through the template’s rectangular opening, using a marker trace the rectangle onto the front of the Auto Sentry for the new scanner. 
12. Remove the template.
13. Use a jig saw to cut out the rectangular opening of the enclosure. Start at the round opening where the old reader cable was and work your way to the sides and into the corners.  Another option is to drill 4 holes in the corners of the rectangle, large enough for the jigsaw blade, and start cutting in each corner.  Cover the components inside the enclosure with a towel or rag to protect them from the metal pieces cut off by the drill bit.  Or have someone hold a vacuum cleaner hose inside the enclosure while drilling.  When done, clean any sharp edges left with a metal file.
14. Attach the new graphics decal that is provided by ICS to the front of the Auto Sentry.  Press firmly all around the decal to remove all air bubbles.
    
    
     
15.  Using a small sharp knife, poke a small hole from the inside to the outside for the rectangular barcode reader  and the 4 screw holes.  Also, poke a small hole in the decal for any other openings that are needed in the decal, i.e., coin slots for the coin acceptor, camera, etc.
16. On the front side of the Auto Sentry decal, follow the edges of all the openings with the knife blade to cut away the extra decal.
    
    
     
17. On the front of the Auto Sentry, attach the black rubber gasket for the barcode reader front bezel.  Be sure to align the screw holes accurately.
18. Attach the barcode reader black bezel faceplate by inserting the (4) screw studs through the front of the Auto Sentry.  Secure the bezel to the inside with (4) regular nuts provided.  Secure the nuts firmly but do not overtighten.  Overtightening may cause the decal to wrinkle.
19. Attach the barcode reader to the inside of the Auto Sentry.  Slide the enclosure over these (4) screw studs from the front bezel.  Attach the 4 keps nuts to the front bezel screw studs and tighten in place.
    
    
     
20. Route the cable from the barcode reader to the right side, underneath the display, over the printer, and toward the motherboard.  Attach the cable to any available USB port on the motherboard, or the same port that the previous reader cable was attached to. 
    
    
     
21. Re-attach the plastic face plate to the front of the Auto Sentry.
    
    
     
22. The plastic front face piece needs to be modified for the scanner bezel attached to the front of the enclosure.  Hold the face piece up against the front of the enclosure and mark the upper right corner where the plastic hits the scanner bezel.
23. Using a small sander or rotary Dremel, sand the edge of the upper right corner of the opening in the face piece until it is smooth with the back surface of the plastic.  Hold the face piece up against the enclosure and check the fit.  If the modification is complete, re-attach the plastic front face piece by securing it with the seven screws removed at the beginning of this procedure.
24. Re-install the components that were removed at the beginning of the procedure: contactless reader, bill acceptor, coin acceptor, and coin return cup.
25. If you were provided with a flash drive, the drivers for the new scanner need to be installed onto the motherboard. Plug the flash drive into any available USB port on the motherboard and follow the prompts on the screen.

Instructions to Power Up the Auto Sentry flex

1. Turn on the electricity to the Auto Sentry Flex by turning on the Auto Sentry breaker inside the ICS power distribution box.
2. Turn the breakers on inside the Auto Sentry flex by pressing the blue buttons on the breakers until they click in.
3. Inside the Auto Sentry flex, turn on the power switch to boot the system.
