Instructions to Power Down the Touch IT

WARNING: Failure to turn off the Touch IT increases the risk of serious bodily injury or death.

  1. On the Touch IT screen, click the Shutdown button to turn off the operating system, and wait until a white screen appears.
  2. Open the Touch IT Power Box by loosening the (2) screws in the lid.
  3. Turn off the breaker inside the Touch IT power box by clicking the blue breaker button until it clicks out.
  4. Shut off the electricity to the Touch IT power box by turning off the Touch IT breaker inside the ICS power distribution box.

INTRO

This procedure instructs on how to replace the display panel in a Touch IT. If your Touch IT has either the
MB-170 motherboard or the MANO motherboard, you have been sent a MANO motherboard which is the latest replacement board. The MB-170 motherboard is no longer supported.

Instructions

  1. Disconnect the power cable, network cable, and any USB cables from the Touch IT.
  2. If the Touch IT is wall-mounted, remove the unit from the wall.
  3. Lay a clean towel or other soft material on a suitable workbench. This is to protect the front bezel of the Touch IT. Place the Touch IT face-down on the workbench with the top of the Touch IT toward you.
  4. Remove and discard all (16) Phillips screws with a screwdriver holding the back of the Touch IT to the front bezel. If the back is held on with nuts and hex head screws, use an 11/32” nut driver or socket to remove the (16) nuts. Then use a 1/16” hex bit to remove the hex head screws. (New hardware is included for a better seal.) 



  5. Carefully, remove the back of the Touch IT from the front bezel as there are several
    cables that attach front and back together. Flip the back of the Touch IT away from you
    and set it down just behind the front bezel.




    This is an older variation of the motherboard.

  6. Make note of the location and orientation of the cables. Take photographs of the network
    cable location. Attach identification labels to each cable, and then remove the cables from
    the motherboard. There are two network ports and one of the ports is inoperable. It’s
    important to place it back in the same exact port. 





  7. Release the black locking tab holding the touch screen ribbon cable into the connector on the touch screen control card. Then open the clamp to release the cable.



  8. Identify the location of the hard drive and the bracket holding it to the back of the display unit. Use a Phillips screw driver to remove the (2) screws holding the hard drive to the bracket.




  9. Carefully remove the LVDS cable from the motherboard.
    NOTE: The wires are very thin, please do not break.
  10. Remove the power cable from the motherboard. It has a locking tab. Press tab to release the
    connector.



  11. The extra auxiliary USB ports are located in the same corner as the USB ports on the motherboard. Remove the wire tie securing those cables to the standoff. Do not disconnect these cables from the motherboard. (Older MB-170 motherboards will not have this extra auxiliary USB cable.)
  12. Use a Phillips screw driver and remove the (4) screws holding the motherboard to the back of the display. There is one in each corner of the board.
    NOTE: Make certain all the cables removed from the motherboard are out of the way and do not get trapped under the new motherboard.
  13. Remove the (2) screws holding the touch screen control card to the display bracket.



  14. Lift the motherboard and hard drive together and set aside on a clean area of the work bench or on a clean towel. Remove the touch screen control card with USB cable attached and set aside. 
  15. Disconnect the display power and motherboard power cable from the bottom of the white terminal block in the back of the Touch IT:
    • Black wire goes to the 3rd terminal from the right in the bottom row of the white terminal block.
    • Yellow wire goes to the 2nd terminal from the right in the bottom row of the white terminal block.
  16. Remove the (5) Phillips screws holding the display bracket (and display) to the front bezel. Remove the bracket and display. In some cases, the bracket may be held on with screw studs and 11/32” nuts instead of screws. 
  17. Clean the inside of the glass in the front of the Touch IT with canned air or a damp cloth. Do not use any chemical solutions. This is the sensitive side of the touch screen. Scratches and chemicals will damage it.



  18. Carefully open the package containing your new display.
    NOTE: The display bracket, LVDS video cable, and power cable are attached.
  19. Remove the protective plastic cover over the display. Inspect the display panel for dust and dirt and remove with canned air or a damp cloth.

Reassembly of the Touch IT is the reverse of the disassembly:

  1. Orient the display and bracket to the front of the Touch IT bezel so the side with only 2 screw holes are on the same side as the Touch Screen Ribbon Cable. Lift the touch screen ribbon cable out of the way so it does not get pinched under the new display panel.
  2. Attach the display bracket to the front of the Touch IT with the (5) screws or screw studs and nuts removed previously.
  3. If a new gasket was shipped to you, follow these instructions to install it:
    Be careful not to stretch the gasket. If the gasket is stretched, the holes will not line up for the screws.
    • Lay down the gasket in the front bezel where its going to get attached. Start in one corner, peel the paper backing off the sticky side of the gasket and begin to adhere the gasket to the front bezel. Slowly remove paper and adhere the gasket while lining up the holes. 
  4. Orient the USB connector side of the motherboard towards the touch screen control card. Run the Auxiliary USB cable under the corner of the motherboard so its inside the standoff. Using a Phillips screw driver, reattach with the (4) screws on the motherboard. Secure the auxiliary USB with a wire tie after you attached the motherboard.



    To prevent damage to the connectors, DO NOT FORCE them together. The cable may be facing the
    wrong direction if it does not easily click in place. Most of these cables can only go into the connector in one direction.
  5. Using a Phillips screw driver reattach the (2) screws in the touch screen control card using the same
    hardware that was removed. 
    Be careful not to pinch any of these cables that connect the back of the Touch IT to the front bezel. The touch screen ribbon cable can easily get caught in the seal between the Touch IT back and front bezel.
  6. Using a Phillips screw driver reattach the (2) screws on the hard drive. 
  7. Carefully insert the touch screen ribbon cable into the connector on the touch screen control card.  Press downward on the black tab to lock it in place. Then close the clamp over the ribbon cable. 
  8. The Network cable has a locking tab and will click in place. 
    IMPORTANT: The network cable MUST be located in the network same port where it originally
    resided because the other port is inoperable and there is no network connection.
  9. Reconnect the LVDS cable to the motherboard.
  10. The white connector of the Power cable has a locking tab and can only go into the power connector in one direction.
  11. Reattach the power cable from the display to the white terminal block. The black and yellow wires must go back to the same terminals as before.
  12. Pick up the back of the Touch IT, rotate the top towards you, and set the back down inside the edge of the front bezel. Be careful not to deform the gasket.
    Do not over tighten the new hardware when attaching it to the unit. A powered screw driver is NOT
    RECOMMENDED. To prevent damage to the Touch IT, only tighten the screws, screw studs, and nuts
    firmly using a screw driver or hex bit driver.
  13. Attach the base to the front bezel using the new hex head screw studs, sealing washers, and nuts
    provided. Insert a hex head screw stud into each of the (16) holes and tighten until snug. Install a
    sealing washer onto each hex head screw stud, and then a nut. Tighten the nuts until snug. The new
    hardware is necessary to secure a better seal.



  14. If the unit was wall mounted, attach the unit to the wall mount.
  15. Connect the power cable, network cable, and any USB cables from the Touch IT.

Instructions to Power the Touch IT

  1. Turn on the electricity for the breaker in the ICS Power Distribution Box.
  2. Turn on the breaker in the power box by clicking the blue breaker button until it clicks in.
  3. Verify the fan in the power supply is running.
  4. Wait and verify the Touch IT operating system is up and running.
  5. Close the Touch IT power box lid and secure with the (2) screws removed earlier.
