Powering Down the Auto Sentry flex
WARNING: Failure to power off the Auto Sentry increases the risk of serious bodily injury or death, and also causes the credit card reader to go into a tamper state which will then have to be replaced.
- On the site server desktop, click on the VNC icon for the Auto Sentry.
- On the menu bar, click the Windows flag icon.
- Click the Shutdown button.
- Wait until the Auto Sentry display goes to a white screen.
- Open the rear doors of the Auto Sentry.
- Turn off the power switch inside the Auto Sentry.
- Inside the Auto Sentry, press the blue buttons on the breakers until they click out to turn off.
See Figure 1.
- Shut off the electricity to the Auto Sentry by turning off the Auto Sentry breaker inside the ICS power distribution box.
Removing the plastic and the Card Reader
- There are (7) 3/8” nuts that need to be removed inside the Auto Sentry to remove the plastic.
- Remove any items from the front right side of the head that would keep you from removing the decal – camera, downward facing barcode scanner, etc.
- Remove the decal.
- Remove the power/data cable from the existing card reader and set it aside out of the way. It is not necessary to remove it.
- Then remove the card reader by removing the (4) nuts holding it to the inside of the Auto Sentry.
- Take the supplied card reader bracket and attach it to the inside of the Auto Sentry at the same location as the old card reader and secure with the same nuts removed above.
Installing the NFC Contactless Card Reader and Decal
- Have a second person at the front of the Auto Sentry and hold the new card reader bezel in place in the bracket as you secure the new card reader to the inside of the Auto Sentry using (4) 11/32” nuts.
- Attach the supplied yellow/green ground wire to one of the bottom (2) nuts.
- Route the ground wire toward the power supply on the left side and attach to one of the ground terminal blocks.
- On the upper right corner of the front of the head, measure down 2 ½” and draw a level horizontal line. Then measure 3 ¾” from the right side and draw a vertical line. This is the new location for the NFC contactless card reader.
- Take the supplied contactless card reader drill template and hold it against the front of the Auto Sentry. Align the upper right corner of the template in the inside corner of the two lines. Then mark the (6) holes to be drilled: (2) ½” holes and (4) 3/16” holes.
- Use a towel or rag to cover the wiring and components inside the Auto Sentry below the card reader. Drill the (4) 3/16 ” holes. You may want to use the 3/16” bit to drill pilot holes for the ½” holes to be drilled. Then drill the (2) ½” holes.
- Identify the slot toward the center bottom of the front face of the Auto Sentry. This is where the gift card chute would attach. Punch the metal tab from the slot with a hammer. This is the new location for the front-facing barcode scanner.
- Find the 4 circles above the slot. These are the screw studs on the inside that would hold the gift card chute in place. Mark the top 2 circles with a black dot from a marker.
- Hold the provided drill template against the front of the Auto Sentry so you can see these marks in the top (2) holes and the template is level.
- Mark the rectangular opening onto the front of the Auto Sentry with a marker. Also mark the location of the (2) holes circled on the bottom half of the template. Use a center punch to mark the (4) holes for drilling.
- Use a towel or rags to cover the wires and components on the inside left side of the Auto Sentry. A vacuum cleaner may also be helpful to clean away the metal particles as you drill and cut. Use a drill with a 5/32” drill bit to drill the (4) holes. Remove any metal that may be left over from the screw studs on the inside of the (2) top holes. Use a jig saw to cut out the rectangular opening above the slot for the gift card chute.
- Attach the new graphics decal provided to the front of the Auto Sentry. Press firmly all around the decal to remove all air bubbles.
- Using a small, sharp knife, poke a small hole (from the inside to the outside) for the rectangular opening for the barcode reader and the (4) screw holes. Poke a hole in the decal for each of the six holes for the contactless card reader. Also, poke a small hole in the decal for any other openings that are needed, i.e., – coin slots for the coin acceptor, camera, etc.
- Go around to the front side and follow the edges of all the openings with the knife blade to cut away the decal from the openings.
- Attach the black rubber gasket for the barcode reader front bezel to the exterior of the Auto Sentry. Be sure to align the screw holes accurately.
- Attach the barcode reader front bezel by inserting the (4) screws through the front of the Auto Sentry. Secure the bezel to the inside with (4) regular nuts provided.
IMPORTANT: Snug the nuts firmly but do not overtighten. Overtightening may cause the decal to wrinkle. - Attach the barcode reader to the inside of the Auto Sentry. Slide the enclosure over the screws from the front bezel. Attach the (4) keps nuts to the front bezel screw studs and tighten in place.
- Attach the barcode reader to the inside of the Auto Sentry. Slide the enclosure over the screws from the front bezel. Attach the (4) keps nuts to the front bezel screw studs and tighten in place.
- Route the USB cable from the barcode reader towards the right underneath the display, over the printer, and toward the motherboard. Attach the cable to any available USB port on the motherboard.
- Find the small white connector on the end of the contactless card reader cable and stick it through the left ½” hole as shown below (as seen from the front). Attach the cable to the back of the contactless card reader. Then attach the contactless card reader to the front of the Auto Sentry and secure in place inside the Auto Sentry with the (4) 11/32” nuts provided.
- Attach the data plug on the other end of this cable to the data jack on the contactless card reader cable.
- Attach the coax cable from the contactless card reader cable to the other jack on the back of the contactless card reader.
- Attach the (2) connectors on the other end of the contactless card reader cable to the back of the new card reader. Attach the white connector on one end of the USB/power cable to the back of the new card reader. Be sure the green wire is toward the middle of the card reader as shown below. Then route the USB end of the contactless card reader cable down and to the right side along the main wire harness, under the display panel, and connect to any available USB port on the motherboard.
- Attach the pink quick disconnect ends to an available pair of power quick disconnects on the main cable harness below the contactless card reader. Be sure to match the red wire to the red wire and the black wire to the black wire.
- The picture below is provided to give a better view of the connections to the back of the new card reader.
- Organize all the new cables neatly inside the Auto Sentry and secure them out-of-the-way with wire ties.
- Attach the front plastic panel to the Auto Sentry.
- Attach any other items removed before the old decal was removed.
Powering On the System
- Reconnect the power to the ICS power distribution box by turning on the Auto Sentry breaker inside the ICS power distribution box.
- Turn the breakers on inside the Auto Sentry by pressing the blue buttons on the breakers until they click in.
- Inside the Auto Sentry, turn on the power switch to boot the system.
