If an Auto Sentry is not automatically detecting vehicles, or if the Car Sense Sensor has been replaced,
please perform the following steps to calibrate or program this sensor.
WARNING: This process needs to be completed while the Auto Sentry is powered on. Please be aware
that you will be working around active 120VAC wiring during this procedure. Please avoid direct contact
with these connections.
- Open the side door of the Auto Sentry Flex, or the rear door of the Auto Sentry Petro, and locate
the terminal blocks. - Disconnect the brown wire from the front of the 24v(+) orange terminal block for 15 seconds, and
then reconnect it. IMPORTANT: This step will power cycle the sensor and clear the sensor
programming. - Put an object in front of the car sensor at the same distance away from the Auto Sentry Flex or
Auto Sentry Petro where a car would normally be parked at the payment terminal (metal sign or
something similar works best). - With the object in place, locate and touch the white programming wire to the +24 orange terminal
block screw and hold while the sensor’s indicator located inside the Auto Sentry will be flashing yellow, and then hold it there for a few more seconds until it flashes red indicating that it sensed the object. - After the sensor flashes red, move the white programming wire off of the +24 orange terminal block screw.
NOTE: Auto Sentry flex only, you can view the sensor through the hole in the upper left side of the Auto Sentry flex that goes down to the bill dispenser area -or- open the bill dispenser door and pull out the bill dispenser tray, and another person will need to be present to view the sensor light up.
- Move the test object away from the sensor's detection area.
- Touch the white programming wire to the -24 Blue terminal block screw.
- Continue holding the wire as the sensor flashes yellow, and then hold it until it flashes red.
- After the sensor flashes red, remove the wire from the 24V(+) blue terminal block screw.
Test the sensor: When there is an object between 6 inches and 6 feet in front of the sensor, the Sense Car light on the Digital I/O screen in the Device Interface Application lights up, along with the Car Sense LED indicator on the SIO board and the Car Sense Indicator inside the Auto Sentry will also illuminate to validate it is working. If we remove the object, these lights should go out.
Troubleshooting: If you get no signal, you can remove the 3P9 cable from the port labeled Car Sense on the SIO board, then jump pins 3 and 4 on the board. While jumped, verify that the car sense light is ON; If it is not, check power to the SIO board and replace the board if needed.
